New Year's Message from the Executive Committee

Dear Members, Sponsors, Speakers, and Friends of GBTA, Silicon Valley Chapter:

As we bring this unusual year to a close, we are moved to reflect on the vision we imagined at the start of 2020 with innovative strength in leadership and engagement. By mid-March, our lives spun into a different turn. In addition to community restrictions and ‘lockdowns’, the travel industry faced the direct effects of travel restrictions governed by pandemic rules. Not only did we face the solemnity of isolation, but many tragically lost jobs and careers came to a halt.

Despite the uncertainly, we came together as a Board to provide support to our Chapter. Our monthly meetings became available via virtual platforms at no cost to you. We aligned our speakers and topics to what was relevant including program implementation during Covid and career-relevant topics.

We launched SVBTA Cares. This campaign provided support to our members by sharing job boards, community news, op-ed white papers, and special events such as a one-time on-site meeting in November about resume building and financial planning. We did not forget our colleagues and neighbors affected by the recent wildfires in Santa Cruz, Napa/Sonoma and areas surrounding Silicon Valley – and our members responded! Thanks to your generosity and assistance, we were able to collect much-needed clothing and essentials to the victims of fires through our partnership with Puente De La Costa Sur.

We end 2020 with hope and look forward to starting 2021 with an optimistic vision for our industry and our community. To start, we are delighted to share that scholarships will open in January, to assist in the cost of membership fees. We continue to implement plans for our monthly meetings. We are still looking forward to hosting our annual Golf Charity Event in September.

And, there is more to come.

Stay safe everyone.

Happy New Year!

Sincerely,

The Executive Leadership Team

Drew Mitchell – President, Makiko Barrett – Vice President, Jean Sloan - Chairperson
